Definition: Jobe Bellingham, a renowned figure in American history, was born on December 31st, 1876, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He was a farmer who became very involved in political matters. In 1904, he ran for the United States House of Representatives from North Carolina and won by over 24,000 votes. He was known as "the Father of the State's Farmer". During his term, he helped establish several farming cooperatives to provide employment for farmers in rural areas. His work earned him praise and respect among farmers. Bellingham also founded the "Agricultural Mutual Aid League" which is a non-profit organization that provides financial support for farmers who are struggling with economic hardships due to inflation or other causes. In 1957, he was elected as the President of the American Farmers Union, an influential agricultural trade union. He served in this position until his death on March 6, 1964.
